801 Media forums are 18+ only? Why Now!?

There is no reason to admit any minors into the 801 Media forum as 801 Media has no titles in print rated below M. In fact, I would argue there are very good reasons for restricting access of that content to minors. You'll just have to interact with your friends on the June boards instead and wait patiently until you are 18.

How would being on a forum have any adult content, its just their books? And anyway there are June titles that were originally meant for people my age that are rated M here (i.e. Ludwig II)

I think 801 is trying to keep it over 18 not because of the books they sell, but what some of us may post in terms of other titles meant for older women. I was talking about a title earlier with a poster that I know if I posted the name of here, an underage fan would google it and go read it. It's NOT for young fans, it's rather raunchy and quite explicit.

There are times when we'll post covers, or talk about series online that are meant for adult readers - having an area sequestered for 'over 18' is DMPs best bet to ward off unwanted legal issues steming from what a youthful reader may see on their forums.

That's not the point. What a minor goes off and finds for herself is one thing, but what an adult provides for that minor deliberately and directly is something entirely different. If you want to look at nudie pictures by yourself and take that initiative, fine, but if 801-chan said, "Hey, Hiyoshimaru, take a look at these nudie pics!" she could get into a whole heck of a lot of trouble. At best it's called "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" and it is a real life crime, with real life consequences, At worst it is a form of child sexual abuse, whether you consent or not, because you are a minor and we are adults. DMP has decided to err on the side of caution, and I agree. With the legal climate how it is in this country, a corporation doesn't need to draw attention to itself like this by allowing minors access to potentially "adult" content.

There is a wide range of what is considered "yaoi manga," and informing someone to "hide" a collection they already own is different from facilitating the access to that content in the first place.

As for manga not containing "real people" the law cares not too much for the distinction (only as it pertains to child pornography, and that's not the issue here right now), unfortunately, but as it concerns you, specifically, I will refer you back to the reasons already stated above. Sexually explicit content, whether "real" or not, is not something a manga publisher needs to draw attention to itself over by allowing access of it to minors. The fact that you've stated several times on these forums that your parents (the people who have the legal authority to deny you access to this sort of material) do not want you reading this stuff is cause enough for DMP to be concerned about your presense here in the first place, let alone think of allowing you access to a specifically "adult materials" forum.

If you've been reading 18+ titles there can be several problems. Bringing these things up in a company owned forum could bring problems to the company, so they've made their mature manga section for 18+ only. This is not to shut you out but to save their own hides and is a good move.
I was asked at a convention last year to buy explicit yaoi for an underage girl and its a good thing I said no; the girl was undercover and some there DID get arrested for providing pornographic material. Its better to not take the risk.

It's interesting that they'd do that, while some big stores sell explicit manga without checking IDs. I don't know what title they targeted though in your case, it could be VERY explicit yaoi. What state was that convention held, if you don't mind me asking?
