Well getting back to the point here ... Censorship is WRONG!

In Japan they censor because it's the LAW. In America they censor to get more books printed and distributed in retail stores.

The idea of censorship being unjust to hardcore fan like myself stands no matter what explanation I am given. For those that try to justify and say censorship is OK ... this just shows me you aren't a read hardcore BL fan. You just read this genre to pass the time and because it's in English all the better.

REAL hardcore BL fan actually care about the art and wants the drawings to be uncensored and in it's original form (like those published in Japan!!)

I don't care how anyone tries to defend the reason why June censors because at this point it's definitely not LAW related and nothing said can change this fact. If there was no June there will always be another company out there that is willing to stand up and print uncensored books; for example, Kitty Media and Dramaqueen. So PLEASE stop licensing titles just to censor them while another company can buy the license and actually produce awesome uncensored yaoi for those who actually care!

ALSO, I do not believe that people buy BL title without knowing what it is. People don't just walk pass a BL title and go "hey it's a gay genre book let me buy it"! People who buy BL books know what they are looking for. I am 100% sure people do buy BL knowing what it is, but I am also 100% sure people are unaware of censorship issues because they have a life and don't come on forums to read about it, but just because a lot of people don't know about it and protest it doesn't mean it's OK!

If I have to I will make it known to as many people as I know to get the point across and censorship is EVIL when it comes to the enjoyment of "REAL" BL lovers.

If it helps, Joetraff, this topic and the book are pretty old now. DMPers have said that they've slowly been pushing the retailers' boundaries, releasing increasingly explicit books to them in slow increments. Of late, Maiden Rose went into the stores untouched, so I suspect that editing of the level Invisible Love went through is finally a thing of the past.

Actually...the censorship laws in Japan are tricky. It's okay in manga but not in doujinshi or BL/hentai games. Real life porn usually has to be censored as well. You can't show genitals on public TV. ( Why I even mention this is that it's allowed where I live. ) Oh yeah there's a lot censorship but not always. I have no idea why manga can be uncensored when manga games can't. I guess some publishers somehow buy the rights.

Still leaves the mystery why some titles are censored when let say Maiden rose wasn't. But either way I'll but the manga I want and if something happens to be censored then go get the Japanese version. I am one of those people who don't mind having a manga in two languages. Well, I still don't agree with censorious but just saying.

i have a solusion to this that will please fans 801 media can maybe re print them uncensored all the ones that were censored and edited(which is just like editing pokemon no one likes messing with anime and manga edits.) Love Skit was done by 801 Media and i dont think that was edited i hope not, so please let them bring back some titles.

Hi, I just joined this board and wanted to pop in to say that this topic is very new/interesting to me. I never realized that some parts of the US published manga can be censored. I want to say thanks to the individuals that contributed to this thread! Very informative!

As a fan of YAOI and one who does purchase YAOI manga for collection, I would like chirp in. I lean toward the side of wanting the original and uncensored works of the mangaka to be published. What is the point of purchasing an edited manga where I can't grasp the full essence of what the mangaka intended? That's just my opinion.

They complain about English dubs, manga translations, and the edits that the manga companies feel are needed. So what if June and 801 edit sex scenes in their manga, you should be bloody reading t for the story, not guys raping each other. Oh, and let us not forget, a person could sue a company if their kid accidentally reads it in the store. So, let say a 10 year comes in the book store and picks up a 16+ manga (one that isn't wrapped), kid sees the sex scene.....next thing you know, the mom sues the store and next would be DMP.

Another thing, if you have the original Japanese manga, why the hell are you even getting the English translational of it? And why even compare the two versions? Japanese and USA laws are different, you have to expect edits in things that come over to this country.

What the hell? Well excuse me for enjoying the sex scenes as well as the overall storyline. Why do you think those are included in the first place? "Guys raping each other" really? Are you serious? That's not even a gross oversimplification anymore, that's just plain wrong.

As for kids reading the books in the stores well that's not really the publisher's concern. 16+ books that aren't packaged can be leafed through by kids too in my opinion. The sex there is only implicit. If the parents sue well that's just because in America everybody sues everybody for the stupidest reasons. That's just terrorism. Books that need to be kept out of reach of children can easily be packaged or allocated to the upper shelves of the stores. Problem solved. That's why I think censoring books that are already labelled 18+ for mature audiences (like Invisible Love) is wrong. People who pick up those books will be expecting explicit scenes so the censorship isn't really necessary, is it?

I'm happy to hear publishers are slowly pushing the retailer's boundaries for explicit mature material. Even if stores have to make some adjustments I don't think the "adults' section" is such a horrible thing. Proudly advertising yaoi for what it is might even earn new customers interested in adult material and old BL fans will buy the books just like they did before. And be happier to get the art from their favorite mangakas unaltered so they'll probably be likelier to buy more in the future. I don't understand why it's such an issue but I'm happy we seem to be going in the right direction... What I'd like to know is if there have been more recent instances of the kind of censorship we see in Invisible Love? Hope not. I don't expect Juné to reissue those titles uncensored, that's just silly. But that is exactly why it's so important to censor as little as possible from now on because there won't be a chance to go back and redo it.
