How to edit a post

Postby Russesa » Wed Feb 02, 2011 3:34 pm

Hi everyone. Like many of you, I've been very frustrated that the forum doesn't work properly in several browsers. So I poked around in the sourcecode and found that the code is there, it just isn't showing up in the form of edit/report/reply-with-quote buttons. I found a workaround that lets you edit your posts.

The url of an existing post looks like this:

http://www.digitalmanga.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=1398&p=7008#p7008

In my example, here, 7008 is the number of that post.

To edit one of your existing posts, change the url like this:

From http://www.digitalmanga.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=1398&p=7008#p7008 to http://www.digitalmanga.com/forums/posting.php?mode=edit&f=56&p=7008

This will only work in The Guild Guide subforum because of that "f=56" tag in the URL. If you want to do this in another forum, you need to use the id number for that subforum. [New: To edit your posts in the Group Search subforum, the correct tag is "f=58"] [New New: I've found I can edit in the Group Search subforum no matter what the f number is. Bizarre. :? ]And of course, it only works on your own posts. Silly. ;)

Enjoy your newfound freedom!

First you give us that genius idea of posting our group statuses in our sigs, and now this? You should get VIP status in this forum already.

Thanks! This should help clean up a lot of threads.

Edit: It works!

o.O

Edit 1:
Haha, it works!
Now to see if I can edit my posts that've already been made. ^-^a

Edit 2:
If anyone is still having problems, here's how I do it:
This is what you'll seen in the url up top:
Code: Select all
http://www.digitalmanga.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=56&t= [whatever else goes here]

At least this is what I see.
Replace the part after: "forums/" with:
Code: Select all
posting.php?mode=edit&f=56&p=7008

The last number will be different, if you don't know what number to put, here's how I did it:
I found my post, clicked on it: "the blue text above your username"
The url then added: #p[whatever number here] to the right, what you need is the last 4 numbers.

Now this is what you should have:
Code: Select all
http://www.digitalmanga.com/forums/posting.php?mode=edit&f=56&p=7008

Take out 7008 and replace it with the last 4 numbers you got from the last step, when that's done, you should be able to edit your post. o.o
