‘Infamous’ tier dedication page mock up is here!

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

When you become ‘Infamous’ by pledging $600+, you get an entire page in either vol.1 or vol.2 of Alabaster to yourself. Limited to four (4) pages in each volume—eight (8) pages total—this is your chance to have your selfie drawn by hand and included in history in the making! Here’s our first sample mock up, created by Mike Dake, a fabulous artist who is currently working on a top-secret project for Magnetic Press.

Remember, this is only a sample! After the campaign succeeds (we’re knocking on wood and crossing our fingers!), we will contact backers at this level to ask for a photograph of themselves or the person (or animal, if you just love your pet rabbit or something) who will be featured. Plus, you may add your own “crime” to the the image, and you’ll receive the original art with your other items.

Backer Spotlight: Our very first ‘Alabaster’ backer!

Monday, February 9th, 2015

“What could be better than supporting a gripping title from a true master with minimal risk?!” —Daniel Taylor, Alabaster Kickstarter campaign backer

What would we do without the strong support of Osamu Tezuka fans? It’s always great to see enthusiastic backers who are as excited as we are to bring this great artist’s work to the United States and the English-speaking world. One very enthusiastic backer, Daniel from the Cincinnati metropolitan area, snagged the honor of being the very first to support our Alabaster campaign. As a fifteen-years-and-counting manga and anime fan, Daniel looks for over-the-top storylines and strong female protagonists. His favorite non-Tezuka series include (but are not limited to!) Revolutionary Girl Utena, Yakitate!! Ja-pan, and With the Light: Raising an Autistic Child. We asked Daniel a few questions to get to know him better, and we hope his answers will inspire you to tell your friends about this great campaign so they can support Tezuka’s work, too. ^_^

Our most surprising ‘Alabaster’ tier: F-Laser!

Friday, February 6th, 2015

Limited to only 30, our “F-Laser” backer tier runs for $110+ and includes two grab bag items on top of all the great stuff we’ve packed into the “I See You!” tier in our Kickstarter campaign to publish Alabaster vol.1-2 in English. This special grab bag tier is named after the device that causes so much trouble in both volumes of Alabaster, the laser gun that the protagonist discovers with the help of a scientist inmate who claims to have created it. Without the F-Laser, it’s pretty evident that Alabaster is a story that could’ve ended before it really began.

Because of the F-Laser’s nature, it creates some interesting-looking animals when they are put under its beam—if anything is left to see at all! In the spirit of surprise, we’re highlighting the F-Laser tier, which includes two randomly-chosen items for each backer! Of course, each backer will receive:

What’s a “digital companion”?

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015

One of our backers asked in the campaign‘s first days, “What is a ‘digital companion’, anyway? What’s in it that makes it more expensive than the two digital volumes [of Alabaster] alone?”

What a great question! Since we’ve had several Kickstarter campaigns and we’re immersed in the lingo all the time at the office, we here at DMI sometimes forget to slow down enough to explain our recurring rewards to new backers who don’t always have the time to go back to our previous campaigns’ pages. Saturday, January 31st, 2015

KickstarterStaffPick‘Alabaster’ has been chosen as a Kickstarter Staff Pick! Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us so far! We really appreciate all the great comments and suggestions you’ve given us. On the campaign’s very first day, someone at Kickstarter chose it as a Staff Pick! (We don’t know who that person at KS is, but thank you!)

It’s great to know that other people have as much passion for Tezuka’s work as we do. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sending out several updates to the campaign, and we hope you will spread the word and get your friends to pledge, too!

With the success of the Finder Project, Digital Manga plans to move forward with even more yaoi restocking campaigns designed to meet the growing yaoi fanbase for older titles. Digital Manga Inc. Launches in Lighting SpeedSmaller, Quicker, and Affordable—The Tezuka Requiem Kickstarter Campaign

Gardena, CA (November 26, 2014)

Digital Manga Inc. (DMI), a long-time publisher of manga, launches a new Kickstarter campaign for their new Osamu Tezuka title, Ludwig B. With other successful Tezuka Kickstarter campaigns such as Barbara, Captain Ken, and Unico, DMI looks to crowd funding once again to help release a manga classic into English. The 2 volume series release date is set for July 2015.

Ludwig B [https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/digitalmanga/publish-osamu-tezukas-ludwig-b-vol1-2]

Ludwig B is a bio-manga about music prodigy, Ludwig van Beethoven. With a focus on Ludwig’s younger years, Tezuka depicts what life was like for a young, struggling artist in a time when those in a higher social class used and abused those of lower class. Born in an era of great composers, Johann (Ludwig’s alcoholic father) forces the young Ludwig to take piano lessons and often acts the dictator. Miserable from his father’s constant abuse, Ludwig hated music, but then he is taken under the tutelage of Christian Gottlob Neefe who nurtured Ludwig’s natural talents. One day, Franz Creutzstein (an aristocrat who hates anyone with the name Ludwig) canes Ludwig Beethoven in the ear which causes internal bleeding. This in turn causes Ludwig to slowly lose his hearing. From abuse by people he trusted, to the death of his parents, to the loss of his hearing, Ludwig continues to compose music because it is the only way for him to connect to people and the world.
