Post Yaoi-Con Wrap-up!

Whew! Another Yaoi-Con finished, and we had an amazing time! We understand it’s a tough time for many people out there, so we thank those who came out to San Mateo for coming to our panels, waiting in line for autographs, and buying our books! You all are the best! But what also made this year great for us were the responses from those who couldn’t be at the convention to our announcements thru Twitter online. We were able to have a second level of interaction that we’ve never been able to have before! So we hope we were able to keep the fans who couldn’t make it, up to date with our announcements!

We’re definitely very excited to be partnering with Softbank Creative to bring Harlequin manga to eManga.com! tateno

A big super, amazing thank you to MAKOTO TATENO, our guest for Yaoi Con. Getting to work with her behind the scenes, we can’t reinforce enough what a sweet, easy-going person she is, and for someone as prolific as her, she’s a hard worker, and a fun guest. She really had a great time at the convention, she was really touched and surprised by the support of her fans, and she loved the Yaoi-Con experience. We at DMP thank all of Tateno’s fans, and the Yaoi Con staff for really making her trip a fun one! It’s because of you that we were able to provide a really good con experience for her.

So, we want to share some tidbits from Yaoi-Con that you didn’t get to see, or some fun things that you may not know!

1.) Tateno-sensei brought her editor, Saito, of 10 years to Yaoi-Con.They’ve worked together since Saito worked at the now defunct Biblos. Hero Heel was actually a story idea of Saito’s, because she loves those costumed adventure shows!

2.) A commissioned sketch of any two characters of Tateno’s fetched $600 for charity! Thanks to the amazing fan!

3.) According to our guests, in a Harry Potter yaoi, in Japan, Snape would be an uke and Harry would be a seme. Think about it a bit. In the US we think the other way-but after thinking about it a little longer-it kind of makes sense.

4.) Tateno-sensei has three assistants. They are currently working on five projects, for several different publishers.

5.) Yellow is the one series of Tateno-sensei’s she would most like to see made into an anime.

6.) We like to give out cool prizes at our panel, so those who were randomly selected as winners at our panel received things like: Antique Bakery doujinshi (we had Ono and Tachibana), signed copies of Makoto Tateno’s “Egg” doujinshi, a Maiden Rose doujinshi, signed The Tyrant Falls In Love pencil boards, a signed set of the first run of Little Butterfly, a signed set of Nighthead by Makoto Tateno, and signed copies of CUT by Toko Kawai! We hope the winners were happy with their prizes! Also, those who came to our panels had priority ticketing for Tateno’s packed signings!

7.) The most popular new book purchases at Yaoi Con: Yellow 2 & Yellow Omnibus Vol. 1, Blue Sheep Reverie Vol. 2, Selfish Mr. Mermaid Vol. 2,Great Place High School Student Council Vol. 1, Little Butterfly Omnibus, Only The Ring Finger Knows Vol.4 novel, and Boys Love.

8.) The most popular older book purchases at Yaoi Con: Selfish Mr. Mermaid Vol. 1, Sugar Milk, Author’s Pet, A Gentleman’s Kiss (1&2),Vampire’s Portrait Vol. 1, and A Strange And Mystifying Story Vol. 1.

9.) Tateno-sensei and her staff love American dramas like 24 (they LOVE Jack Bauer), LOST and Prison Break.

10.) Of the announcements at Yaoi Con-Tyrant Falls In Love and the Kizuna Deluxe editions received the most cheers, in the panel room and online! We’re happy you’re happy!

So we close out our con schedule for this year by saying thanks again! We hope you keep up with us on Twitter:
http://twitter.com/digitalmanga, and we hope you continue to support this small independent publisher-so we can continue to bring fun guests out and attend more shows! If you’re looking for a book, and you can’t find it, ask your local comic store to order it. Or visit our retail store online: www.akadot.com-free shipping for all orders over $15 (heavily discounted items exempt). Your support keeps us going!

Ciao for now!

OMG! This was by far (out of 3 cons) Yaoi Con ever! And not only because of the announcements and the guests but because the fans were incredible great. I’m glad I went this year because I was there for those announcements! Like I said on Twitter at one point, this was history in the making. At least on our end. I’m sure the staff was sitting on pins and needles when the license was signed and nobody could utter a word about it.

I was the last one to win one of Tateno-sensei’s prizes on Saturday. It is now part of my small treasure trove of mangaka autographs, along with my copies of Yellow 2 vol 1 and Yellow vol 3.

I’m glad Otodama got picked up by DMP. It gives Nitta-sensei the incentive to not give up. She has fans all around the world who want to read her books in English.

Any leftover advance copies of Little Butterfly omnibus? That’s the one I couldn’t buy this past weekend.

Again, thank you. You all made this convention something that I will never forget.

  2. Yuki Says:

  6. Home Page Says:

What i don’t understood is in reality how you’re no longer actually much more
well-preferred than you may be right now. You are so intelligent.

You already know therefore significantly with regards to this topic, made me for my part imagine it from numerous
varied angles. Its like men and women don’t seem to be interested unless it’s one thing to do with Girl gaga!
Your personal stuffs outstanding. Always deal with it up!
