Digital Manga, Inc. will be at the Annual Little Tokyo (Los Angeles) Nisei Week festival this weekend, August 15th and 16th. Nisei Week was started by second-generation Japanese Americans to bring diverse communities together to celebrate the growth of Japanese culture in America. The entire Nisei Week festivities begin August 15th and end August 23rd.
This year the first annual Little Tokyo Tanabata Festival, August 15th through 17th, is celebrated along with Nisei Week. Tanabata is also known as the Japanese Star Festival, which originated from the Chinese Star Festival Qi Xi. Legend represents the Cowherd star Altair and Weaver Princess star Vega, as two tragically separated lovers, who reunite only once a year across the Milky Way bridge. Japanese tradition during Tanabata is to write wishes onto small strips of paper called Tanzaku, and hang them from bamboo.
In celebrating Tanabata and Nisei Week, eManga is taking 100 points off titles this Friday, August 14th, to Monday, August 24th. That means 100 points off of standard prices for both Rent and Keep options!
So what wish will you be writing on your Tanzaku this year?
