I think this program is a nice idea, but sadly it’d only great for part of the people interested. It’s international shipping for me and that means paying $13 only for shipping, so it’s over $20 in total! Sorry, but I think I’m not the only person stepping back at this. I don’t have that kind of money, I woundn’t even buy my most favorite books this expencive. If you really want this program to be an success, you should think about this, too. The way it is, only people from the US will preorder it and I’m sure there are many people outside the US who would love to get this too. But with this high sipping fees you won’t get the feeling you want to get with this program, since you actually won’t know how many people will buy it at the end, when they can get it via amazon and such. That is very sad and I hope you’ll conside a change here…

I agree with Hirymoku that international shipping price is ruining the interest of this deal.
There should be a low cost alternative.

I would have love to participe to this program ! But your international shipping price are really too hight !! $13,00 for one book who cost $8,95 ?? Too bad !

Hum…the bar on the preorder goal line doesn’t seem to be moving much. This is the sort of thing that might need constant mentioning and promotion. Has anyone announced it on June’s LJ communities or gone into other large fan communities to promote it?

Amy: Pre-orders must be through the link on Juné’s website in order to qualify towards the web-a-thon.

Donna: There’s definitely future possibilities for a lot of what you mention if the program is successful. I doubt we would see it as the way to do all the books we publish, but for borderline-selling titles, or mangaka with a vocal but questionable fan-base, it might prove an alternative to seeing those titles go unpublished.

I wonder if this idea is a way to give the fans a chance to see something that is constantly requested be published sooner? People often say they’ll buy it if it’s published, but here is a way to see just how many people really will do that. With the manga publishers in the state they are in these days, this may be a way to get some books published that perhaps would not otherwise be published at all. I can think of a few other publishers who we might like see do something like this. It seems that there are many (many, many) manga series that we never see the end of in English. (Of course, if you like an unpopular title, you’re still out of luck!) From the fans’ point-of-view, it’s a way to truly let the publishers know what you want. On the other hand, maybe publishers, if they all went this way, would never publish some more risky books, or ones that are new to the audience. It would probably be better not to do this with everything you publish.
