The Weekly Digital Round-Up: Less Digital, More AX

We’ve been busily preparing for Anime Expo, so while we don’t have the usual digital releases to bring this week, we do have more info for those of you who’ll be attending Anime Expo next week!

DMP’s industry panel, “Manga Without Borders,” will be held on Thursday, July 4th from 5:00-6:00pm in LP4 for licensing news, a Q&A session, and amazing giveaways! Come check us out to learn more about DMP, see eManga.com in action, and meet some of our staff!

Looking to add a racier panel to your Anime Expo schedule? Join us Saturday, July 6th from 8:30-9:30PM in LP 4 for a peek at Project-H. Got questions? Want free stuff? Have a burning desire to know why hentai has to mosaic all the good parts? We’ve got you covered. This panel is only for fans 18 and over, which means you’ll have to come prepared with your ID so we can let you in! The first 30 attendees to arrive will receive a special gift bag packed with hentai goods, postcards, and a free Project-H book!

In addition to our industry panels, you can find us in the dealer’s hall at the Akadot Retail and eManga booth at space #438. Our new eManga mascot will be making his triumphant debut at the booth, and he’ll be bringing eManga gift cards and coupons, Anime Expo exclusive buttons and postcards, and a playable demo of Vanguard Princess, eManga’s first download-to-own video game. Sign up for eManga and our newsletters while you’re visiting, and you’ll receive a free gift: your choice of anything from our gift bin filled with manga, plushies, figures, and much more.

For those fans looking to grab books, books, and nothing but books from Akadot, you’ll find multi-use coupons for $5 off any purchase of $40 in our Akadot newsletter, which you can sign up for here. Print the coupon or bring it to our booth on your portable device of choice to receive the discount on all your AX Akadot purchases!

Ahahaha – this person says: “I am sick to death of hearing about all your stupid hentai.” <– and yet this person keeps coming back here for more. LOL

  2. fiddlerjones Says:

Sevi, please. I know that you’re upset about this whole thing – we all are – but continuously commenting about how horrible you think DMP is, isn’t doing anything except making you look bad. Your tirade has gotten out of control.

It’s one thing to be angry that little to no explanation has been given about the printing delays; but it is entirely another thing to verbally attack everyone who works at DMP, accusing them of wanting to “round up and kill homosexuals” and “publicly rape and stone women.” I’ve seen all of your comments on almost all of the weekly blogs, angry and lashing out at DMP. You are entitled to feel the way you feel, but seeing an angry BL fan blasting them at every turn isn’t encouraging them to work faster to make you happy.

I’m a DMP customer, too; yet while I’ve been disappointed by the delays, they are trying to release these titles early. Ze’s already on Akadot, so we can at least be reassured that they are still printing the titles; and Tyrant wasn’t due until the end of July. Also, with so many different DMP groups in their network, having several different printers isn’t that hard to believe.

Please, I know you’re upset, but attacking them won’t do anything for anyone. They’re trying to get back into the groove of print BL after their break, so bear with them while they sort things out. If you decide that you want to find a publisher you trust more, then more power to you. But be respectful. These people are working hard to release manga for everyone, not just hentai fans or BL fans. Please be considerate; feel free to be angry, but don’t harass them.

    Regards,
    fiddlerjones

I’m just as annoyed as you sevi, but I think you’re going a little too far now. :/ I just hope this issue gets solved quickly. Give us at least as many BL titles in print as there are hentai. No excuses.

  4. Ari-chan Says:

Pfft. Now that Tyrant 8 is available – can we, PLEASE GAWD, count on sevi to be gone from this blog posts?

  5. seny Says:

It does look very bad indeed… But if there’s something I want I will still buy it. I don’t think the mangaka should get punished because of this. If something is actually printed then I will buy it. I wish the H-project was just a separate publisher all together then we wouldn’t have to argue. :/

  6. O Says:

DMP announced on the 3rd they got Tyrant in on twitter. You can buy it and Wild Honey now on Akadot and it will ship once their people get back from the convention.

  7. tevis2 Says:

Akadot now charges nearly ten bucks for two books for shipping (that’s the lowest they have for where I am). As much as I’d love to support their own store (I used to buy from Akadot / pay more for books just to support the publisher), this is way too much for shipping. And no explanation – why such a sudden increase?

I will buy elsewhere. I strongly suggest DMP revisit / lower back their shipping costs if they want to be able to sell their stuff via Akadot. Akadot shipping costs make their online store non-competitive.

  8. Lint Says:

I’m with tevis. Why the sudden jump in shipping costs? I used to purchase from akadot because of the competitive pricing and shipping costs. I’d love to buy some of the recent yaoi releases (ZE, Tyrant Falls in Love…, and Wild Honey), but having to pay full retail cost for the mangas in addition to the recent hike in shipping makes me want to go elsewhere. I’ve always slightly favored DMP over SuBLime because of akadot (and various other reasons). However, the easy accessibility of purchasing a SuBLime title at a discounted cost at other bookseller sites has definitely given them an edge over you guys. And this is coming from a consumer that has been wildly anticipating her purchase of ZE and Wild Honey for months now, but I now hesitate to buy due to the pricing. If it’s a deterrent for a pretty avid fan like myself, I can only imagine what it’s like for other more lukewarm customers. Try to throw your readers and customers a bone, will you?

  9. seny Says:

10 dollars, oh noes. Last time I checked it was at least 50 bucks to Sweden regardless. Yeah, as much as I’d like to I wont be able to order from Akadot either. :/ Instead I rely on those who have free shipping, you just have to wait another month or so… Still hoping for a BL speed up. Meh.

  10. seny Says:

I’d also like a proper answer from the higher ups… Are those “cancelled” titles ever coming back?

  11. Andrea Says:

I made good use of that $5 off coupon. Thanks! DMP is the only reason I keep coming to Anime Expo. I look forward to next year.

  12. Still Waiting Says:

Look, guys, here’s the thing. The ratio of hentai : BL isn’t the issue here. If they’re releasing this many hentai titles, presumably it’s because they’re selling well. If hentai is where the money’s at, okay, great, fine. After all, this isn’t a non-profit organization we’re talking about here; DMI is in business to make money.

There are lots of perfectly legitimate business-related reasons why they might have cut back on the volume of BL titles being licensed and released. I get that. That’s all right. Hell, I only have so much extra cash to spend in any given month anyway! ;)

What IS a problem is the utter lack of ability — or desire, it seems — to follow through on delivering the BL titles that HAVE been promised. The relatively small number only serves to highlight the farcical nature of the repeated rescheduling. The schedule shuffling, leaving series hanging, sitting on licenses, and lack of legitimate or sincere explanations are the behaviors that are making fans turn their attention (and their paychecks) elsewhere.

…And THAT is the part that’s BAD BUSINESS.
