Itazura na Kiss Comes to DMP!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:23 pm

We are proud to announce that our latest license for the DMP line is one of the most popular classic shojo manga series: Itazura na Kiss!

Gardena, CA – (January 26, 2009) - Digital Manga Publishing, Inc., one of the industry’s most unconventional and innovative companies, is proud to announce its acquisition of the classic and timeless shojo manga: ITAZURA NA KISS. Never before released in translated form in the U.S., ITAZURA NA KISS has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, inspired live action dramas, and has recently been released in a newly created anime by the same name.

Published under the DMP imprint, ITAZURA NA KISS was released as 12 omnibus volumes in Japan, and plans for the first two volumes in a 5.125″ x 7.1875″ format at a cost of $14.95 per volume, will begin with volume one in November, 2009, and volume two following in March, 2010. ITAZURA NA KISS has inspired countless shojo manga artists, and with its unconventional narrative in following the lives and relationships of its main characters from high school to beyond, it created the groundwork for many contemporary shojo manga stories. This timeless manga will enchant and inspire new readers while reminding seasoned readers why shojo is as popular as it is. It is a “must-have” for any manga enthusiast, or anyone who loves a romantic, comedic story of why people fall in love, and the sacrifices and growth each must go through for the other.

ITAZURA NA KISS VOL. 1- RATED T+ (for ages 13+), MSRP: $14.95 US, Available: November 4, 2009

ITAZURA NA KISS is the beloved and classic shojo manga following two high school students, the air-headed Kotoko and the brilliant cold genius Naoki. When Kotoko finally musters the courage to confess to the haughty Naoki, his instant rejection shocks her and she decides to forget him forever. But when circumstances force her and her father to move in with her father’s close friend, she encounters an even bigger shock when she realizes her father’s friend is Naoki’s father, and they’ll be living together from now on! Is it fate? A sign from heaven? Whatever it is, Kotoko’s every attempt to impress the aloof Naoki seems to create chaos in Naoki’s life, and the cracks in his cool, robot-like facade begin to show. Follow the journey of these two through life, love, and every chaotic, crazy moment in Kotoko’s mission to make Naoki hers!

KAORU TADA was born in 1960, and is the creator of AI SHITE KNIGHT and ITAZURA NA KISS. ITAZURA NA KISS was her most popular work in Japan, and has spawned live action dramas, been adapted for the theatrical stage, and released as an animated series. KAORU TADA died tragically at the age of 38 in 1999.

  3. Wow..
This one one of the mangas I was desperately wanting to read. However, most older manga hardly get licensed or translated so I thought I may never be able to read it.
I know the series is long – but I hope many people get into the great story so further volumes keep being translated.

Thanks for picking up this series. I’ll be sure to get it when it comes out. (^__^)

    — Hope you also consider some other popular older titles that have not been translated yet.

  4. First of all, I’m really happy and overjoyed that ItaKiss is going to be publish by DMP. I really am. I love the series everything about it (including the manga which has been scanlated up to volume 7, the anime and the tawainese adaptation)

But I’m just a little worried. ItaKiss manga is composed of 23 volumes and not 12 so I’m guessing you guys will only publish it up until the couple gets married? That’s kind of sad. Their life after the wedding is even more interesting! Please, please publish it until the “end”!

  5. Don’t worry, Rozeh – we’re publishing the whole thing. We have the rights to the omnibus version, which is basically two volumes per book. So the first book is volumes 1-2, the second is 3-4, and so on. So the 12 volumes will cover the entire series.

  10. Thank you guys so much for picking up this series! ^o^ I’m so happy I could scream, but that would disturb my roommate. This was my first manga series, albeit I could only look at the pictures since I couldn’t read Chinese. My aunt lent me her Chinese version of the series when I was in middle school, and I’ve always hoped someone would translate it into English. So thanks a lot for making a dream come true. <3

  11. Hi, I thought I’d just leave a message. I recently bought my own copy of Itazura na Kiss. This series seems especially special, as the Taiwanese drama series (I have yet to watch the Japanese one) that was based on the manga, was the very first drama I watched in my life. The moment I discovered that you guys were licensing the manga I was SO happy– I think I remember crying a bit. xD You’ve done a great job on the first volume, and I’m looking forward to the second volume! :) I’m hoping that you do get to release all 12 volumes!! ^_^

  13. Thank you for translating this amazing serie!

Isn’t there any chance that DMI version of Itazura na Kiss comes to Portugal?

In my country there aren’t any publishers that sell manga, so my choice is only Amazon?

  18. I am so happy that you guys are publishing this series I have already bought volumes 1-3 and going to buy more I am obsessed with this series. I watched the anime when it was ongoing in 2008 and i became more obsessed as i couldn’t wait for more episodes. I read the summaries on a website and tried to find the manga. but no one had it. I also watched the taiwanese version and the korean version but didnt watch the japanese live action as it changed the whole story. i’m looking for volume 11 and 12 and would like to know when they will be out.
